Confronting Denial in the Divorce Journey ๐Ÿ’”๐ŸŒฅ๏ธ

The denial stage can be a complex part of processing a divorce. Itโ€™s often where we shield ourselves from pain and try to maintain a facade of normalcy. Here’s a glimpse into this emotional phase:

  1. Pretense of Normality: Denial may manifest as a pretense that everything is fine or jumping into new relationships too quickly, avoiding the real feelings of pain and loss.
  2. Self-Medication: It can lead to seeking distractions like shopping, partying, or unhealthy habits to numb the emotional turmoil.
  3. Signs of Denial:
  1. Relief: An overwhelming sense of relief, often accompanied by justifying the decision to leave the marriage.
  2. External Validation: Seeking affirmation from others to justify your choices and actions.
  3. Indecision and Regret: Wavering back and forth in your decision, often romanticizing the past relationship.

Denial can act as a protective barrier, allowing us to handle emotions only in doses we can manage. It took me three years to break through this stage, to start feeling and acknowledging my emotions without running away.

If you find yourself in this stage, know that it’s a natural part of the healing process. Recognizing and acknowledging these feelings is the first step towards true healing.
